Braces

Orthodontic appliances (braces) can be metal or clear (ceramic) and may be used to correct just about any orthodontic problem (crowding, crooked teeth and bad bites).

Placing Braces

Watch the three steps: spacers/separators, cementing bands, direct bonding brackets, and foods to avoid.

Parts of Braces

The first video shows the different parts of orthodontic appliances (braces): bonded brackets, archwires, elastic and steel ligatures, types of hooks for elastics, elastic chains, coil springs, headgear tubes and molar bands. Individual videos follow showing a more detailed view on the more common parts of braces: elastomeric ligation for metal or clear braces, power chains to close spaces.

Elastics

Rubber bands that are used to correct the bite and can be applied in different directions.  Typically, they are worn full time except for eating and tooth brushing and are changed by the patient at least once a day or if they break.
