Interproximal Reduction (IPR)
Interproximal reduction (IPR) is the process of removing a small amount of enamel between teeth to aid in correcting crowding (without extractions) or reshaping teeth.
Extractions
Some cases require the removal of deciduous (baby) teeth or permanent teeth.
Third Molars
As third molars (wisdom teeth) develop, the teeth may change alignment especially the lower front teeth. Your dentist and/or orthodontist should monitor them in order to determine if and when they need to be removed.
Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJ) / Excessive Tooth Wear
Problems may occur in the jaw joints (TMJ), causing pain, headaches or ear problems. Many factors may affect the health of the jaw joints, including past trauma, arthritis, heredity, excessive tooth grinding and clenching and many medical conditions. This occurs frequently while sleeping but also occurs during the day especially in stressful situations. In cases of tooth grinding/clenching, a night guard (bruxing) splint may be helpful.

Jaw Surgery
Some patients have significant jaw discrepancies which require orthodontic treatment in conjunction with jaw surgery. Typically, orthodontic treatment begins 9-12 months before the surgery, to align the teeth. Following surgery, 3-6 months of orthodontic treatment allows the bite to settle.
Temporary Anchorage Devices (TADs)
Temporary anchorage devices (TAD’s) are titanium mini-screws that are temporarily placed in the upper or lower jaws to enhance tooth movement. In some cases they may replace the need for headgear (night brace), face masks or even jaw surgery.
