Routine Exams

Examination

Our examination is performed with great detail to every aspect of the primary and developing dentition. In addition to examining for tooth decay, the occlusion (bite) is evaluated to determine if early orthodontic intervention would be of benefit. Anticipatory guidance is offered for parafunctional habits, such as pacifier use and finger or thumb sucking, with appropriate suggestions for timely intervention including management of traumatic dental injury. Not only the teeth, but all intraoral tissues are carefully examined. Parents are educated and informed of treatment plans with details and rationale for any necessary intervention. Options of non- invasive treatment may be provided in order to avoid sedation. Parents are educated and involved regarding all treatment decisions. Our emphasis is conservative.
